Guided tours
The tour starts in the Romanesque 3-storied inner court yard.
Through the pharmacy, the gothic chapel, and the armoury the visitor
reaches the residential apartments of the counts of Clam full of finest 18th century furniture.
The big dining room with its decorated walls and hand-painted Austrian china is surely the highlight of the tour.
The visitor gains an insight into life in a medieval castle and into the history
of the Counts of Clam who have been living in their castle for over 550 years.
In this room the chamber orchestra played for the Clam family and guests.
The paintings on the walls show ladies playing historic instruments.
Count of Pappenheim was commander of a famous elite unit in the Renaissance.
The collection shows a suit of armour from this regiment.
The unique Meissen swings from the German porcelain manufacturer were not only used as decoration;
the basket on the ladies laps contained pepper and salt.
One highlight of the tour is the big dining room, also called the Landscape Room.
The mural paintings dating back to 1803 show the castle’s surroundings.
It is still in use on special occasions - family weddings and christenings, for example.
The Louis XVI furniture, the fine porcelain and the Bohemian lead-crystal glasses make this room an unforgettable sight.
